Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 12.00% or 0.995 points to trade at 9.285 at the close. Air Canada (TSX:AC) added 7.94% or 1.12 points to end at 15.22 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX:EDV) was up 7.59% or 2.15 points to 30.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Frontera Energy Corp (TSX:FEC), which lost 9.54% or 0.35 points to trade at 3.32 in late trade. Equitable Group Inc. (TSX:EQB) declined 7.67% or 4.62 points to end at 55.61 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 7.62% or 0.61 points to 7.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 595 to 456 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.33% or 22.75 to $1739.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 9.65% or 2.44 to hit $27.73 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 7.09% or 2.07 to trade at $31.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.42% to 0.7120, while CAD/EUR rose 0.63% to 0.6595.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 100.377.
