Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Retail, Basic Resources and Media sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Consumer & Cyclical and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.55%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.26%, and the TecDAX index added 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 2.22% or 0.140 points to trade at 6.446 at the close. Deutsche Boerse AG (DE:DB1Gn) added 2.00% or 1.430 points to end at 73.060 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) was up 1.79% or 2.750 points to 156.300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 3.03% or 0.250 points to trade at 8.007 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 2.97% or 0.435 points to end at 14.230 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) shed 2.70% or 2.250 points to 81.160.
The top performers on the MDAX were Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which rose 2.82% to 88.120, Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was up 2.80% to settle at 28.970 and Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which gained 2.01% to close at 42.350.
The worst performers were Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which was down 3.17% to 98.720 in late trade, Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which lost 1.05% to settle at 23.165 and Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was down 1.04% to 46.195 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which rose 3.44% to 64.900, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was up 2.49% to settle at 7.861 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 2.14% to close at 54.500.
The worst performers were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 1.97% to 18.895 in late trade, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which lost 1.68% to settle at 3.622 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 1.50% to 55.010 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 473 to 397 and 27 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.25% to 19.49.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.43% or 5.65 to $1317.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.73% or 1.22 to hit $43.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.47% or 1.16 to trade at $45.73 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.35% to 1.1196, while EUR/GBP fell 0.68% to 0.8435.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 95.66.
