Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite rose 1.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr), which rose 12.25% or 0.025 points to trade at 0.229 at the close. Frigoglass (AT:FRIr) added 12.17% or 0.06 points to end at 0.52 and Ellaktor (AT:HELr) was up 9.30% or 0.120 points to 1.410 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Creta Plastics (AT:PLAKR), which lost 5.16% or 0.19 points to trade at 3.49 in late trade. Iktinos Hellas (AT:IKTr) declined 2.93% or 0.03 points to end at 0.96 and Halcor (AT:XAKO) shed 2.64% or 0.007 points to 0.261.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 73 to 21 and 17 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.74% or 9.20 to $1228.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.51% or 0.96 to hit $39.24 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.51% or 1.00 to trade at $40.85 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.47% to 1.1347, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.7869.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 94.72.
