Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.89%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which rose 2.89% or 27.30 points to trade at 972.00 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 2.63% or 2.45 points to end at 95.75 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 2.54% or 82.85 points to 3345.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 1.29% or 283.10 points to trade at 21675.65 in late trade. Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) declined 1.15% or 254.05 points to end at 21849.85 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 0.93% or 3.05 points to 324.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which rose 2.86% to 971.65, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.54% to settle at 3345.30 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 2.22% to close at 2309.00.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.69% to 555.00 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 0.48% to settle at 611.20 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 0.38% to 433.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 968 to 622 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1486 rose and 1018 declined, while 148 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.77% to 23.1500 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 0.57% or 11.70 to $2048.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.95% or 0.40 to hit $41.79 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.15 to trade at $45.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 74.936, while EUR/INR rose 0.06% to 88.7700.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 92.882.
