Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Consumer Durables and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.58% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which rose 3.80% or 61.05 points to trade at 1662.15 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 0.70% or 2.30 points to end at 330.70 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was down 0.41% or 5.35 points to 1294.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which lost 6.95% or 59.05 points to trade at 800.90 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 5.19% or 20.55 points to end at 375.45 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 4.11% or 40.85 points to 953.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 0.06% to 664.95, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.17% to settle at 438.75 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 0.27% to close at 330.75.
The worst performers were Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 5.90% to 801.65 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 5.45% to settle at 374.45 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 3.58% to 2995.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1383 to 247 and 18 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2173 fell and 505 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 24.68% to 20.0150 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.70% or 9.30 to $1345.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.59% or 0.38 to hit $63.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.80% or 0.54 to trade at $67.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 64.205, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 79.5736.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 89.40.
