Proactive Investors - Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC, ETR:INL) has unveiled its latest chip to rival NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD)’s graphics processing units, as competition heats up to rollout semiconductors for the booming artificial intelligence sector.
According to Intel, the Gaudi 3 is two times more power efficient than NVIDIA’s H100 and can run artificial intelligence models one and a half times faster.
“We do expect it to be highly competitive,” Intel’s Xeon software vice president, Das Kamhout, commented.
“From our competitive pricing, our distinctive open integrated network on chip, we’re using industry-standard Ethernet. We believe it’s a strong offering.”
Intel said the chips would roll out to customers in the third quarter of this year, with Dell and Hewlett Packard among firms lined up to build systems with these.
NVIDIA’s latest B100 and B200s are also due to be released later this year, with these set to be faster and more efficient to use in the likes of data centers than the H100.
The release of new chips is hoped to cut shortages and address supply chain tightness, with NVIDIA said to account for 80% of the market currently.
“We are working with the software ecosystem to build open reference software, as well as building blocks that allow you to stitch together a solution that you need, rather than be forced into buying a solution,” Intel’s networking senior vice president, Sachin Katti, said.
