Investing.com – Italy equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemicals, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Milan, the Investing.com Italy 40 gained 0.17% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com Italy 40 were Mediaset (MI:MS), which rose 2.84% or 0.126 points to trade at 4.566 at the close. UBI Banca (MI:UBI) added 1.96% or 0.0540 points to end at 2.8120 and FinecoBank Banca Fineco SpA (MI:FBK) was up 1.86% or 0.10 points to 5.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (MI:BMPS), which lost 12.08% or 2.2400 points to trade at 16.3000 in late trade. Saipem (MI:SPMI) declined 3.20% or 0.0163 points to end at 0.4937 and Italgas SpA (MI:IG) shed 2.39% or 0.09 points to 3.68.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 172 to 166 and 19 ended unchanged on the Milan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 1.05% or 0.56 to $52.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 1.19% or 0.66 to hit $54.69 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.02% or 0.25 to trade at $1133.35 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.43% to 1.0434, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.8451.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 102.99.
