Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Communication, Machinery and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.35% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7912), which rose 14.81% or 387.00 points to trade at 3,000.00 at the close. Suzuki Motor Corp. (TYO:7269) added 5.62% or 251.00 points to end at 4,720.00 and Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7911) was up 4.57% or 90.00 points to 2,058.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which lost 1.11% or 110.00 points to trade at 9,840.00 in late trade. Itochu Corp. (TYO:8001) declined 1.00% or 42.00 points to end at 4,161.00 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) shed 0.99% or 5.00 points to 498.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2291 to 1246 and 306 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.91% to 17.69.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.15% or 0.12 to $80.25 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.30% or 0.26 to hit $86.39 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.32% or 6.20 to trade at $1,929.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.20% to 130.41, while EUR/JPY rose 0.36% to 142.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 101.67.
