Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.45% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723), which rose 4.87% or 126.00 points to trade at 2,715.00 at the close. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) added 4.56% or 96.50 points to end at 2,210.50 and SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) was up 3.98% or 95.50 points to 2,496.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which lost 6.66% or 516.00 points to trade at 7,232.00 in late trade. DeNA Co Ltd (TYO:2432) declined 6.15% or 92.00 points to end at 1,403.00 and Aozora Bank, Ltd. (TYO:8304) shed 5.84% or 156.50 points to 2,524.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2380 to 1306 and 207 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.85% to 20.74.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.13% or 0.10 to $79.87 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $83.57 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.26% or 5.55 to trade at $2,090.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 150.37, while EUR/JPY rose 0.28% to 163.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 103.83.
