Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Steel and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 9.64% or 53.00 points to trade at 603.00 at the close. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) added 3.89% or 23.00 points to end at 614.00 and JGC Corp. (TYO:1963) was up 3.49% or 65.00 points to 1,930.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Konami Corp. (TYO:9766), which lost 2.81% or 190.00 points to trade at 6,580.00 in late trade. Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) declined 2.28% or 15.00 points to end at 642.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) shed 1.43% or 130.00 points to 8,990.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2443 to 1113 and 249 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.62% to 18.20 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.61% or 0.49 to $80.53 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.77% or 0.67 to hit $88.12 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.32% or 5.60 to trade at $1,745.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.23% to 141.79, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 145.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 107.47.
