Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Textile and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506), which rose 4.14% or 185.00 points to trade at 4,655.00 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) added 4.11% or 170.00 points to end at 4,305.00 and Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) was up 3.93% or 37.00 points to 979.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chiba Bank Ltd (TYO:8331), which lost 3.41% or 34.00 points to trade at 964.00 in late trade. Concordia Financial Group Ltd (TYO:7186) declined 2.56% or 15.00 points to end at 571.00 and Shizuoka Financial Group Inc (TYO:5831) shed 2.37% or 26.00 points to 1,071.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2378 to 1110 and 298 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.40% to 19.77.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.91% or 0.73 to $79.38 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $84.47 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.58% or 11.15 to trade at $1,910.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.31% to 128.94, while EUR/JPY rose 0.32% to 139.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 102.20.
