Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Gas & Water and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which rose 14.93% or 63.0 points to trade at 485.0 at the close. Yamaha Motor Co Ltd (T:7272) added 7.72% or 181.0 points to end at 2527.0 and Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (T:3105) was up 7.02% or 73.0 points to 1113.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911), which lost 7.12% or 224.5 points to trade at 2927.5 in late trade. Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (T:5711) declined 3.94% or 147.5 points to end at 3597.4 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) shed 2.19% or 41.0 points to 1827.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2403 to 663 and 278 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.32% to 17.89 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.26% or 0.14 to $53.14 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.25% or 0.14 to hit $55.77 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.96% or 11.85 to trade at $1224.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.42% to 113.73, while EUR/JPY rose 0.46% to 121.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 100.68.
