Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Insurance and Food sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 4.11% or 310.00 points to trade at 7,850.00 at the close. Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6504) added 3.83% or 220.00 points to end at 5,970.00 and Z Holdings Corp (TYO:4689) was up 3.55% or 16.10 points to 469.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NEC Corp. (TYO:6701), which lost 7.47% or 395.00 points to trade at 4,895.00 in late trade. Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:7205) declined 6.53% or 48.00 points to end at 687.00 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) shed 5.74% or 28.00 points to 460.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2230 to 1257 and 288 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.85% to 19.48 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 1.46% or 1.41 to $97.83 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 1.32% or 1.34 to hit $103.17 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.76% or 13.30 to trade at $1,763.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 1.11% to 132.79, while EUR/JPY fell 0.64% to 135.98.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.67% at 105.52.
