Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Shipbuilding and Steel sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541), which rose 4.83% or 94.00 points to trade at 2,041.00 at the close. Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) added 3.66% or 63.00 points to end at 1,782.00 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) was up 3.32% or 42.00 points to 1,306.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523), which lost 6.22% or 596.00 points to trade at 8,988.00 in late trade. Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770) declined 3.27% or 44.00 points to end at 1,303.00 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) shed 2.68% or 120.00 points to 4,355.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2207 to 1305 and 284 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.95% to 18.53.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 1.54% or 1.19 to $78.43 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 1.76% or 1.48 to hit $85.37 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.62% or 10.75 to trade at $1,751.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.34% to 138.46, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 143.46.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 106.34.
