Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Retail and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which rose 3.06% or 14.0 points to trade at 472.0 at the close. Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4005) added 2.95% or 18.5 points to end at 645.5 and Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (T:5711) was up 2.41% or 80.0 points to 3397.6 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which lost 3.29% or 60.0 points to trade at 1762.0 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 3.23% or 250.0 points to end at 7495.1 and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) shed 3.10% or 21.0 points to 657.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2160 to 1006 and 294 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.27% to 13.60.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.78% or 0.35 to $45.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.73% or 0.35 to hit $47.98 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.11% or 1.39 to trade at $1244.41 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.18% to 111.99, while EUR/JPY fell 0.56% to 127.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 95.53.
