Proactive Investors - Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) is diving further into the video game industry, launching a round of beta testing for two games it has added to its streaming service, Oxenfree and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a company statement revealed.
It is introducing a new controller for playing the games on TV, in the form of a mobile phone. The limited pool of members testing the game will also try out the group’s “game streaming technology”- used to help run the game without downloading it.
Having already implemented a number of mobile, quiz and interactive films onto the website, the US-based group has been dipping its toes in the industry since as early as 2021.
Oxenfree, a fully-fledged console game originally released in 2016, is one of the first full-scale games added to Netflix, with the requirement of a controller the likely reason we haven’t seen a game like this added earlier.
After acquiring Oxenfree’s creator Night School in 2021, the streaming giant owns three gaming studios, including two mobile app developers, Boss Fight Entertainment and Next Games.
A statement from Netflix said: “While we’re still very early in our games journey, we’re excited to bring joy to members with games. We look forward to hearing feedback from our beta testers and sharing more as we continue on the road ahead.”
