Proactive Investors - Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX, ETR:NFC) has signed an agreement to exclusively show two live National Football League games this coming Christmas Day.
In a major expansion into the live sports sector for Netflix, the NFL announced a three-year deal with the streaming giant on Wednesday.
This will see the two Christmas Day ties shown on Netflix in 2024, followed by at least one on the holiday in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
“There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts,” Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria commented.
Bajaria added the Christmas Day games would only be shown on Netflix, with the NFL set to announce fixtures for the 2024 season later on Wednesday.
“The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition,” NFL executive vice president Hans Schroeder said, with 30 games having been played on the day since 1971.
“To partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans,” he added.
