Proactive Investors - OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever announced on Wednesday the launch of his new artificial intelligence company, Safe Superintelligence.
Safe Superintelligence Inc is the first dedicated lab focused solely on developing safe superintelligence (SSI), according to a statement from Sutskever and co-founders Daniel Gross, and Daniel Levy.
The American company will have offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv.
“SSI is our mission, our name, and our entire product roadmap, because it is our sole focus,” the statement read.
The company, which aims to create a safe AI environment amid the generative AI boom, will operate from Palo Alto and Tel Aviv.
“We approach safety and capabilities in tandem, as technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs. We plan to advance capabilities as fast as possible while making sure our safety always remains ahead,” the company said.
“This way, we can scale in peace.”
We will pursue safe superintelligence in a straight shot, with one focus, one goal, and one product. We will do it through revolutionary breakthroughs produced by a small cracked team. Join us: https://t.co/oYL0EcVED2— Ilya Sutskever (@ilyasut) June 19, 2024
Sutskever is leading the venture with Levy, a former OpenAI researcher and Gross, co-founder of Cue and a former AI lead at Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL).
Sutskever departed from OpenAI in May following his pivotal role in CEO Sam Altman's brief ousting and subsequent reinstatement last year.
