Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Energy and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD), which rose 37.82% or 9.38 points to trade at 34.18 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) added 35.32% or 6.290 points to end at 24.100 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) was up 10.98% or 0.85 points to 8.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which lost 13.90% or 1.89 points to trade at 11.71 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) declined 5.39% or 0.16 points to end at 2.81 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 4.98% or 0.43 points to 8.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 579 to 436 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.52% or 26.60 to $1725.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.52% or 0.51 to hit $34.00 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.95% or 0.34 to trade at $36.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.33% to 0.7168, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6550.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 99.457.
