Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Construction & Materials and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which rose 2.01% or 10.50 points to trade at 532.50 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 1.98% or 67.00 points to end at 3446.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 1.68% or 16.00 points to 971.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 2.73% or 17.20 points to trade at 612.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 2.52% or 11.30 points to end at 436.60 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 2.10% or 23.00 points to 1075.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1083 to 889 and 515 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.61% or 7.45 to $1212.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.46% or 0.23 to hit $49.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.37 to trade at $49.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.4644, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.7603.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.39% at 95.51.
