Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.41% or 31.30 points to trade at 609.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 3.35% or 13.80 points to end at 425.60 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 3.12% or 5.0500 points to 166.7000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which lost 1.58% or 12.00 points to trade at 748.50 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 1.55% or 64.00 points to end at 4070.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 1.32% or 48.00 points to 3582.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 995 to 851 and 488 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.37% or 4.65 to $1277.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.07% or 1.42 to hit $47.63 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.61% or 1.25 to trade at $49.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.24% to 1.4413, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.7863.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 94.43.
