Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Food Producers, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which rose 2.89% or 118.00 points to trade at 4200.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 2.10% or 42.00 points to end at 2039.00 and Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN) was up 2.08% or 5.60 points to 275.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 2.77% or 30.00 points to trade at 1051.00 in late trade. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) declined 2.52% or 34.00 points to end at 1314.00 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) shed 2.48% or 135.00 points to 5310.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1145 to 1005 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.25% or 3.00 to $1220.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.49% or 0.18 to hit $36.61 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.33 to trade at $38.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.4285, while EUR/GBP fell 0.41% to 0.7975.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 94.50.
