Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 11.81% or 56.60 points to trade at 535.70 at the close. Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN) added 8.81% or 22.60 points to end at 279.20 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 7.43% or 32.650 points to 472.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Next PLC (LON:NXT), which lost 1.33% or 75.00 points to trade at 5560.00 in late trade. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) declined 0.46% or 13.00 points to end at 2820.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 0.33% or 5.000 points to 1520.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1539 to 620 and 467 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.68% or 8.40 to $1229.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.18% or 0.45 to hit $38.73 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.36% or 0.54 to trade at $40.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.4381, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.7872.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 94.90.
