Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Tobacco, General Retailers and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 3.10% or 45.000 points to trade at 1495.000 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 2.91% or 26.00 points to end at 919.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.82% or 30.00 points to 1094.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 2.85% or 137.00 points to trade at 4666.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.80% or 55.00 points to end at 1907.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) shed 2.02% or 65.00 points to 3160.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1145 to 1126 and 459 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.17% or 2.15 to $1265.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $50.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.25 to trade at $51.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.36% to 1.2210, while EUR/GBP fell 0.21% to 0.8900.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 98.75.
