Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which rose 6.46% or 33.00 points to trade at 544.00 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 4.67% or 24.50 points to end at 549.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 4.43% or 81.00 points to 1910.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW), which lost 6.56% or 16.20 points to trade at 230.80 in late trade. BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) declined 5.77% or 76.50 points to end at 1249.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 4.61% or 55.50 points to 1149.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1120 to 837 and 408 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.49% or 5.95 to $1203.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.43% or 1.22 to hit $49.06 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.32% or 1.23 to trade at $51.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.2163, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.8702.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 101.92.
