Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Food & Drug Retailers, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which rose 3.44% or 23.50 points to trade at 707.00 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) added 2.96% or 89.00 points to end at 3097.00 and Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) was up 1.84% or 48.00 points to 2660.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which lost 5.72% or 16.00 points to trade at 263.50 in late trade. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 4.33% or 380.00 points to end at 8395.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 3.71% or 11.05 points to 286.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1204 to 765 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.55% or 6.93 to $1250.07 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $47.59 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.08% or 0.04 to trade at $50.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.20% to 1.2914, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8456.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 98.92.
