Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Electrical and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which rose 2.71% or 15.50 points to trade at 588.50 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 2.13% or 98.50 points to end at 4732.83 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 2.10% or 62.00 points to 3015.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 5.41% or 24.30 points to trade at 425.10 in late trade. British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) declined 3.80% or 23.50 points to end at 595.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.39% or 49.00 points to 1398.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 991 to 885 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.08% or 13.05 to $1199.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.57% or 0.29 to hit $51.37 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.29 to trade at $54.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.46% to 1.2314, while EUR/GBP fell 0.51% to 0.8627.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 101.46.
