Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Media and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 lost 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Inmarsat PLC (LONDON:ISA), which rose 6.69% or 60.00 points to trade at 956.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Old Mutual PLC (LONDON:OML) added 4.85% or 10.60 points to end at 229.10 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LONDON:GSK) was up 2.68% or 38.00 points to 1457.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tui AG (LONDON:TUIT), which fell 3.03% or 33.00 points to trade at 1055.00 at the close. BP PLC (LONDON:BP) declined 3.00% or 11.85 points to end at 383.20 and Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL) was down 2.84% or 22.70 points to 775.40.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1429 to 1091 and 505 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.41% or 4.50 to $1090.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.95% or 0.88 to hit $44.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 0.61 to trade at $48.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.51% to 1.5522, while EUR/GBP rose 0.77% to 0.7044.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 97.83.
