Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electrical, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.23% or 47.50 points to trade at 1,518.50 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 2.61% or 2.40 points to end at 94.38 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.09% or 11.20 points to 548.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which lost 3.29% or 37.50 points to trade at 1,104.00 in late trade. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) declined 2.80% or 21.60 points to end at 749.60 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.33% or 8.10 points to 338.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1112 to 652 and 499 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.51% or 27.10 to $1,824.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.06% or 0.80 to hit $76.18 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.26 to trade at $80.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.13% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 103.70.
