Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Industrial Metals & Mining and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which rose 5.34% or 55.00 points to trade at 1,085.50 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 3.47% or 24.20 points to end at 720.80 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 1.56% or 87.00 points to 5,671.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG), which lost 3.53% or 292.00 points to trade at 7,980.00 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 2.00% or 17.40 points to end at 854.40 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) shed 1.85% or 40.00 points to 2,124.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 926 to 864 and 510 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.50% or 27.10 to $1,782.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.66% or 2.13 to hit $77.85 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.42% or 2.07 to trade at $83.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.77% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.53% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.60% at 105.13.
