Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Software & Computer Services and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 12.82% or 138.50 points to trade at 1,219.00 at the close. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) added 5.11% or 44.60 points to end at 918.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 4.56% or 24.50 points to 562.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 5.02% or 28.00 points to trade at 529.80 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 3.32% or 71.00 points to end at 2,067.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 1.86% or 42.50 points to 2,237.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1132 to 583 and 421 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.11% or 2.15 to $1,921.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.79% or 1.89 to hit $69.59 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.39% or 1.73 to trade at $74.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.76% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.36% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 102.57.
