Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.67% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 4.58% or 4.76 points to trade at 108.76 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 4.51% or 32.80 points to end at 759.80 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 3.18% or 5.35 points to 173.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 1.96% or 19.00 points to trade at 949.00 in late trade. Aviva PLC (LON:AV) declined 1.66% or 7.50 points to end at 444.20 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 1.53% or 48.50 points to 3,124.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1070 to 738 and 496 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.23% or 23.35 to $1,922.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.28% or 1.00 to hit $79.39 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.66 to trade at $84.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 101.97.
