Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.91% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.73% or 190.00 points to trade at 3,509.00 at the close. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) added 4.13% or 46.50 points to end at 1,172.50 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 3.57% or 395.00 points to 11,465.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 3.65% or 19.00 points to trade at 501.40 in late trade. DCC plc (LON:DCC) declined 1.46% or 63.00 points to end at 4,268.00 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) shed 1.32% or 25.50 points to 1,909.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1055 to 607 and 488 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.51% or 27.85 to $1,868.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.96% or 0.71 to hit $74.38 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.47 to trade at $79.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.45% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.03% at 103.75.
