Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 2.23% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 11.13% or 295.50 points to trade at 2,951.50 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 8.97% or 75.20 points to end at 913.60 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 7.71% or 166.50 points to 2,326.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 3.82% or 49.50 points to trade at 1,247.00 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 2.99% or 24.60 points to end at 798.80 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 1.98% or 2.30 points to 114.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1231 to 535 and 535 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.84% or 46.25 to $1,677.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 4.20% or 3.70 to hit $91.87 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.50% or 3.31 to trade at $97.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.41% to 1.13, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.33% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.49% at 111.12.
