Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Segro Plc (LON:SGRO), which rose 7.09% or 52.80 points to trade at 798.00 at the close. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) added 5.92% or 31.80 points to end at 568.80 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 5.66% or 35.20 points to 656.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which lost 6.83% or 32.45 points to trade at 442.65 in late trade. Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) declined 2.37% or 55.50 points to end at 2,289.50 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 1.28% or 7.20 points to 554.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1267 to 519 and 473 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.19% or 3.10 to $1,657.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.46% or 0.39 to hit $84.97 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.34 to trade at $91.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.71% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP fell 0.85% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.90% at 110.90.
