Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Segro Plc (LON:SGRO), which rose 2.39% or 19.80 points to trade at 850.00 at the close. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 2.23% or 38.50 points to end at 1,765.50 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) was up 2.22% or 35.00 points to 1,610.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which lost 2.93% or 310.00 points to trade at 10,280.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.29% or 79.50 points to end at 3,387.00 and Abrdn PLC (LON:ABDN) shed 2.12% or 4.50 points to 208.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1101 to 741 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.17% or 3.35 to $1,941.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 3.26% or 2.57 to hit $76.30 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.28% or 2.80 to trade at $82.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP rose 0.59% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 101.54.
