Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 2.90% or 64.00 points to trade at 2,272.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 1.62% or 28.00 points to end at 1,754.50 and Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) was up 1.47% or 8.00 points to 553.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which lost 6.70% or 5.46 points to trade at 76.02 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 3.99% or 131.00 points to end at 3,153.50 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 3.07% or 22.80 points to 720.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1103 to 709 and 458 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.01% or 0.25 to $1,877.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.87% or 0.65 to hit $75.28 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.54 to trade at $80.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.30% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.36% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 103.07.
