The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 3.44% or 22.40 points to trade at 673.40 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 3.34% or 8.00 points to end at 247.70 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 2.78% or 121.0 points to 4471.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH), which lost 1.95% or 104.0 points to trade at 5242.0 in late trade. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) declined 1.56% or 3.40 points to end at 214.70 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 1.51% or 3.10 points to 202.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1214 to 862 and 258 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1569.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.52% or 0.28 to hit $53.20 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.08 to trade at $58.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.3012, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8457.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.940.
