Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.72%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.45%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 2.93% or 2.43 points to trade at 85.42 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 2.41% or 1.46 points to end at 62.02 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 2.14% or 4.01 points to 191.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), which lost 2.77% or 0.39 points to trade at 13.71 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 1.28% or 1.59 points to end at 122.26 and Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM) shed 1.05% or 0.86 points to 80.97.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which rose 6.34% to 22.71, Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was up 5.90% to settle at 20.470 and Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) which gained 4.88% to close at 76.35.
The worst performers were Baker Hughes A Ge Company LLC (NYSE:BHGE) which was down 6.47% to 32.67 in late trade, Newfield Exploration Company (NYSE:NFX) which lost 5.84% to settle at 28.20 and Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which was down 5.02% to 182.83 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were American Electric Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AETI) which rose 126.35% to 1.675, Deciphera Pharmaceuticals LLC (NASDAQ:DCPH) which was up 47.86% to settle at 38.31 and Liberty Tripadvisor Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LTRPB) which lost 0.29% to close at 17.00.
The worst performers were Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) which was down 41.82% to 52.57 in late trade, Jounce Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:JNCE) which lost 33.48% to settle at 7.47 and Kandi Technologies Group Inc (NASDAQ:KNDI) which was down 29.36% to 3.850 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1888 to 1166 and 133 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1422 rose and 1148 declined, while 102 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.65% to 12.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.70 to $1295.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.44% or 0.95 to hit $64.86 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.94% or 1.49 to trade at $75.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.29% to 1.1694, while USD/JPY rose 0.27% to 109.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 94.03.
