Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.06%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.68%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 4.20% or 7.38 points to trade at 182.89 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.93% or 1.06 points to end at 28.01 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 3.98% or 6.28 points to 163.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 1.12% or 2.60 points to trade at 230.58 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.83% or 0.28 points to end at 33.29 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) shed 0.74% or 0.93 points to 124.65.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which rose 27.84% to 39.90, Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) which was up 9.19% to settle at 56.68 and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) which gained 7.25% to close at 194.02.
The worst performers were United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was down 5.37% to 46.21 in late trade, Vornado Realty Trust (NYSE:VNO) which lost 5.26% to settle at 16.21 and Boston Properties Inc (NYSE:BXP) which was down 4.32% to 53.43 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Ainos Inc (NASDAQ:AIMD) which rose 79.17% to 1.29, Sigilon Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SGTX) which was up 64.84% to settle at 1.16 and MMTEC Inc (NASDAQ:MTC) which gained 38.93% to close at 2.07.
The worst performers were Toro Corp (NASDAQ:TORO) which was down 39.02% to 2.41 in late trade, Oportun Financial Corp (NASDAQ:OPRT) which lost 34.61% to settle at 2.74 and RAPT Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAPT) which was down 25.97% to 19.70 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2252 to 803 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2343 rose and 1258 declined, while 181 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 10.52% to 23.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.43% or 8.20 to $1,908.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 4.44% or 3.32 to hit $71.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $77.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 134.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.25.
