Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.32%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.51%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which rose 0.87% or 1.16 points to trade at 133.89 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) added 0.68% or 0.74 points to end at 109.90 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 0.68% or 0.40 points to 58.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 2.96% or 2.04 points to trade at 66.87 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.67% or 0.83 points to end at 30.28 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) shed 1.68% or 0.47 points to 27.49.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Monster Beverage 1990 Corp (NASDAQ:MNST) which rose 12.81% to 144.22, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:FCX) which was up 10.76% to settle at 14.00 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) which gained 9.57% to close at 659.59.
The worst performers were Stericycle Inc (NASDAQ:SRCL) which was down 21.50% to 95.56 in late trade, Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ:STX) which lost 19.07% to settle at 21.77 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which was down 11.28% to 40.87 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Globus Maritime Ltd (NASDAQ:GLBS) which rose 200.00% to 1.2900, Paragon Shipping Inc (NASDAQ:PRGN) which was up 50.86% to settle at 2.6400 and KBS Fashion Group Ltd (NASDAQ:KBSF) which gained 30.42% to close at 0.4043.
The worst performers were Park-Ohio Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:PKOH) which was down 36.42% to 25.45 in late trade, Golar LNG Limited (NASDAQ:GLNG) which lost 23.24% to settle at 16.58 and Stericycle Inc (NASDAQ:SRCL) which was down 21.50% to 95.56 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1869 to 1445 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1646 fell and 955 advanced, while 40 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.14% to 15.85.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 2.39% or 30.30 to $1296.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.11% or 0.05 to hit $45.98 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.39 to trade at $47.38 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.86% to 1.1450, while USD/JPY fell 1.56% to 106.42.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.76% at 93.02.
