Nouriel Roubini Slams Binance CEO Once Again as Bots Attacks

Published 2022-11-18, 06:05 a/m

  • Nouriel Roubini compares Binance CEO to North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.
  • Roubini was allegedly attacked on Twitter by bots pretending to be Cz.
  • Roubini previously said Zhao was “Shadier” than FTX CEO.

During a recent Twitter rant, New York University economics professor Nouriel Roubini compared Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. This comes after hundreds of trolls and bots flooded Roubini’s Twitter account pretending to be Binance’s CEO.

The economist added:

“When someone criticizes them, they unleash their army of trolls & bots! No wonder the @cz binance ⦗Changpeng Zhao⦘ photo looks like the one of Kim Jong-un,”.

The drama began last Wednesday when Roubini went on a tirade about corruption in the cryptocurrency industry and referred to Binance’s CEO, Changpeng Zhao, as a “walking time bomb”

The economist, nicknamed “Doctor Doom” while stating his pessimistic predictions about crypto, recently stated that the failure of FTX demonstrates that the crypto community needs to be wary of bad actors. He specifically named Zhao, better known by his initials CZ, as one such individual.

Speaking at a panel hosted by CNBC’s Dan Murphy on Wednesday at the Abu Dhabi Finance Week, the crypto critic claimed there were “seven Cs of crypto”: “concealed, corrupt, crooks, criminals, con men, carnival barkers,” and lastly, Binance CEO Changpeng “Cz” Zhao, who appeared on a previous panel at the same conference.

As part of his speech, Roubini also questioned the UAE’s decision to allow Binance to operate.

After the massive and rapid collapse of FTX, Roubini said that Zhao was “even shadier” than FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, raising questions regarding Zhao’s attempts to save the cryptocurrency sector.

Zhao was also quick to respond to Roubini in a recent interview, stating that Roubini was spreading “negative energy” and accusing “Dr. Doom” of being “very impolite. The criticism was met with a straightforward “we don’t care” from Zhao.

Following this, Roubini attacked Binance in response, citing a recent Reuters article that alleges the exchange of helping the Iranian regime launder almost $8 billion worth of cryptocurrency.

Moreover, Roubini stated:

“Negative energy is to allow $8 billion money laundering by a regime in Iran that kills women and young girls, arrests them, and tortures them by the 1000s, ” adding that CZ and his firm Binance had “blood money” on their hands.
