Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3), which rose 2.36% or 0.79 points to trade at 34.27 at the close. ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) added 1.82% or 0.08 points to end at 4.48 and EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) was up 1.50% or 0.12 points to 8.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which lost 12.77% or 1.23 points to trade at 8.40 in late trade. Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) declined 8.09% or 0.55 points to end at 6.25 and Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6) shed 7.03% or 2.01 points to 26.59.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 203 to 109 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 8.06% to 44.10.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.26% or 3.30 to $1274.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.77% or 0.36 to hit $46.34 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.14% or 0.18 to trade at $130.07 .
USD/BRL was up 1.38% to 3.5309, while EUR/BRL rose 0.82% to 3.9933.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 94.59.
