KATOWICE, Poland, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Poland is unlikely to
merge some of its biggest power companies in 2016 as this would
have to be discussed with the European Commission first, energy
minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski said on Friday.
Earlier this year, the previous government considered
merging some of Poland's power firms - PGE PGE.WA , Tauron
TPE.WA , Enea ENAE.WA and Energa ENGP.WA but said it needed
to focus on coal mines' restructuring first.
"I do not think that a consolidation of Polish energy
industry could be possible in 2016, especially that this
concerns the requirement of competitiveness made by the European
Commision," Tchorzewski told reporters.
"These kind of actions would require consultation with the
Commission," he added.
