OSLO, Aug 31 (Reuters) - The volume of salmon in cages at Norwegian fish farms, as measured by weight, was up by five percent year-on-year in July, industry lobby Seafood Norway said in a statement.
Also known under the term biomass, the quantity was estimated at 641,000 tonnes of salmon, it added.
"We expect only marginal changes to the harvest volume the next 10 months compared to last year," Seafood Norway said, adding that its forecast for an increase in harvest volume of 1-3 percent remains unchanged.
Seafood Norway represents about 500 Norwegian seafood companies.
Big Norwegian salmon producers, including Marine Harvest MHG.OL , Leroey LSG.OL , Grieg GSFO.OL and Norway Royal Salmon NRSM.OL expect Norwegian production volumes to rise by around 2 percent in 2017 after falling 5 percent in 2016.
Norway is the world's top salmon producer, followed by Chile.
In June, salmon biomass was up 7 percent year-on-year.
