Investing.com – Belgium equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Telecoms and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 added 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were NV Bekaert SA (BR:BEKB), which rose 2.39% or 0.84 points to trade at 36.00 at the close. Ageas (BR:AGES) added 1.80% or 0.620 points to end at 35.000 and Umicore NV (BR:UMI) was up 1.15% or 0.51 points to 44.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ontex Group (BR:ONTEX), which lost 2.56% or 0.74 points to trade at 28.17 in late trade. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) declined 1.13% or 0.440 points to end at 38.330 and UCB (BR:UCB) shed 1.03% or 0.73 points to 70.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 79 to 63 and 13 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.15% or 1.90 to $1256.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.12% or 1.26 to hit $41.62 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.41% or 1.46 to trade at $44.29 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.18% to 1.1388, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.7994.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 94.05.
