Proactive Investors - Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN, ETR:AMZ), has once again taken the title of the richest person on earth after surpassing Elon Musk, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
With a net worth of US$200 billion, Bezos leads Musk, who’s worth now stands at US$198 billion.
In the current financial year, Musk has lost approximately US$31 billion with Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA, ETR:TL0) continuing to shed value.
Bezos, on the other hand, has added US$23 billion to his wealth after Amazon rallied close to 90% in the last twelve months.
Tesla saw its shares fall by over 7% on Monday and have continued to tumble a further 2% in after-market trading, further impacting Musk's net worth.
Musk had reclaimed the title of the world's richest person in May 2023, after edging out Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH.
The three centibillionaires — Musk, Arnault, and Bezos — have been in a close race for the top spot of previous years, but with LVMH facing a downturn in the luxury goods sector, the gap between third and second could expand.
Last month, it was revealed Bezos had sold around US$8 billion worth of Amazon shares, with plans to sell over three times that amount by January 2025.
