Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 2.63% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 7.50% or 0.18 points to trade at 2.58 at the close. Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) added 6.47% or 1.98 points to end at 32.60 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) was up 6.00% or 0.58 points to 10.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which lost 2.88% or 0.35 points to trade at 11.79 in late trade. JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) declined 2.13% or 0.20 points to end at 9.20 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) shed 1.72% or 0.57 points to 32.63.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 206 to 83 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.11% to 40.27 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.33% or 4.10 to $1247.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.88% or 1.27 to hit $45.31 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 3.22% or 4.05 to trade at $121.67 .
USD/BRL was down 0.07% to 3.5267, while EUR/BRL rose 0.07% to 3.9917.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 94.43.
