BRIEF-French European Affairs minister Beaune: reiterates Carrefour is a strategic asset

Feb 3 (Reuters) - Carrefour CARR.PA :

* French European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune told LCI TV on Wednesday that French supermarket group Carrefour CARR.PA was a strategic asset, and that he shared French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire's views on the matter.

* Last month, Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard ATDb.TO dropped its surprise bid for the European retailer after the plan ran into opposition from the French government. Some French politicians said the issue was a matter of national food safety.

* Couche Tard's CEO said last month that Couche-Tard would revive its $20 billion bid for France's Carrefour if the Canadian convenience store operator saw a change in the French government's stance on the proposed deal.
