Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Staples and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP), which rose 7.97% or 1.86 points to trade at 25.21 at the close. Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) added 7.52% or 1.62 points to end at 23.16 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 4.28% or 0.88 points to 21.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 12.37% or 0.74 points to trade at 5.24 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 4.36% or 1.17 points to end at 25.68 and K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT) shed 3.67% or 0.22 points to 5.77.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 491 to 485 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.50% to 11.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 5.35 to $1,918.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.13% or 1.44 to hit $69.14 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.77% or 1.28 to trade at $73.79 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.49% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.06% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 102.64.
